Putting Sound Into Your Map
Sound really does add a nice touch to most maps.
It is fairly easy to do but you will need a PAK EXPLORER. (www.valve-erc.com)
First of all go to the entity menu and find
the AMBIENT_GENERIC tool, then place it in the map where you want the sound
to be played.
In the 3D view it should look like a speaker:

Once you have placed it in VHE select it and
bring up the properties box (ALT+ENTER)

Ok there are lots of options but I will explain
the important ones (and only ones I use!)
NAME- Give the entity a name and it can be switched
on or off (alarms for instance)
Path/filename of WAV- This is where we tell
the entity where to get the sound from and this is why we need the PAK explorer.
Open the PAK0.pak in the valve folder and go
to the sounds directory:

Let's use drips for this example.
To make drips work we would type:
ambience/drips.wav
The ambience is the folder it is in and drips
is the file name. Also note that it HAS to be a FORWARD slash, and you need
.wav at the end.
Now move over to the FLAGS tab.

The top four are pretty self-explanatory, just
have a go with each setting to see the distance of the sound.
START SILENT- Use this if you want the sound
to come on.
IS NOT LOOPED- Tick this if you have a sound
you want to play once, like a scream for example or leave it blank for things
like alarms.
That pretty much wraps up sounds, just mess
around with them to find what suits you.
