HALOS ON LIGHTS
You must have seen them, in many levels those
things that are in front of lights and they get bigger and smaller depending
on your distance. They just look classy:

NOTE: To be able to see these in VHE you
need a pak-explorer (www.valve-erc.com) and open
the PAK0.pak in the valve folder. Extract the SPRITES folder to your desktop
and then open it up and copy them all into the existing sprites folder in
the VHE root folder. Then you will see them in the 3D view
Well let's learn how to put them in shall we?
A quick note though is that they tend to look better on small lights like
the above screenshot.
Ok you have a light texture in you level so
all you need to do first is select ENV_GLOW from your entities list:

Then left-click in the 3D view to place it dead
centre on the light. Don't worry about it overlapping it won't in the game.
Right so it has a huge black thing around it doesn't it. Open up the properties
by selecting the glow and hitting ALT-ENTER.

Right, under RENDER MODE select GLOW, then under
FX AMOUNT type 200. (0 is invisible, 255 is opaque)
FX COLOR-This is where you choose the color
of the sprite, match it with the light. (It won't change colour in the 3D
view but will in game)
SPRITE NAME- There are 4 types glow01, glow02,
glow03 and glow04, just change the number and it will change in the 3D view.
SCALE- is where you choose the size, the default
is 1. You can have 0.5, 0.6, 1.3 and so on.
Ok give your level a test and it should look
really good
