Making A Curved Corridor- Part 2
So in the first tutorial you learned how to
make the inside wall curve but now it is time to unlock the secrets of the
other wall.

Note: I work with the smallest grid setting
possible, remember that when looking at these screenshots.
If we look back at our corridor we are trying
to curve the wall on the right. This should be easier now you did the left
wall.
To start off with join your walls and move them
12 grid units apart this time.
Note: It doesn't have to be 12 it can be
more or less but for now let's stick with that.

Ok, once you have done this it is time to learn
the wonders of the arch tool! First select it from the PRIMITIVES menu.

Now like you did with the other tutorial drag
a box to fill the gap. Start at one outside tip of the wall and move to the
other. This is very important otherwise it will not align correctly!

Now you are free to hit enter and gaze in at
the confusing menu.

Let's have a look at what all this is about
shall we?
Preview- pretty obvious to most, just
make sure that if you change the attributes you must click preview to 'refresh'
it.
Wall Width- This must be exact. The way
to work it out is (on a smallest grid setting) is to times however thick the
wall is by 4. As you can see in my picture it is a 4 unit wide wall so 4 x
4 is 16 and there we go. Just keep a calculator handy for them really thick
walls!
Number of Sides- I usually stick to 6,
the smaller the arch the harder it is to have many sides and you may notice
it getting crooked. Bear that in mind.
Arc- This determines how much of an arch
you want. We always want 90 degrees for corridors.
Start Angle- This makes the arch face
a certain way so you need not rotate it. You can have 0, 90, 180 and 270.
Add Height- Takes some messing around
with but putting a value in here lifts each part of the arch up a little,
and allows the construction of curved staircases.
Right copy my set-up (check the wall width though)
and click OK to make the arch. It will appear a little off centre but don't
worry just move it into position so that it fits snugly in. (No leaks please!)

Excellent!
Now be sure to texture the arch and check for
gaps with your ceiling and floor. They should overlap but check anyway.

The Finished Product!
Now you have mastered this it should help
to give your levels a nice touch!
