Making A Curved Corridor- Part 1
How confusing this seems at first eh? Well let's
set the record straight now shall we? They are easy, but like everything you
need to know the best method.
Well let's look at the difference they can make
first shall we?
Here is a quick corridor I set-up in VHE and
as you can see the bend is square and boring.

It would look sooo much better with a curve
like so: (Don't forget it looks even sweeter in-game)

Note: I work with the smallest grid setting
possible, remember that when looking at these screenshots.
So how do we go about this then?
There are a number of ways to do it but the
way I will show you is the easiest and is more friendly to the engine.
Firstly we will do the inside curve (the one
on the left in the above picture)
Make your two walls and make sure they join.
Then move them say 8 grid units apart from the join like below:
Note: It doesn't have to be 8 it can be more
or less but for now let's stick with that.

Now once you have done that you need to select
CYLINDER from the PRIMITIVES menu and then drag a cylinder into the gap. Make
it 16 sides but do not create it just yet.

Leave it as a dotted outline for now.

What we want to do is to create a 4 sided corner.
Well a quarter of 16 is 4 so that is why we chose a 16 sided cylinder. If
you look at the above image you will see that by creating the cylinder it
will make a 16-sided cylinder in the gap. Useless to everyone. To get 4 sides
we must double the cylinders size each way. This is confusing but take a look
below:

Does that make it clearer? I simply moved the
dotted line down a further 8 units and left 8 units. Then when I created the
cylinder you can see (pointed out by the arrows) that it is perfectly lined
up. Now all we need to do is get rid of the rest of the annoying cylinder.
Select the cylinder and then use the clip tool
(SHIFT-X) to clip the cylinder into one quarter.

NOTE: Pressing SHIFT-X multiple times will
cycle through the modes.

Great!, be sure to texture the rest of the cylinder
and WATCH OUT for leaving a gap in your ceiling and floor. All you will need
to do is stretch them over a bit to cover the hole.
Now you have mastered the first part of the
curved corner.

Ok well done. Move on to the second part of
this tutorial to find out how to do the other wall.
